U of Illinois Trustees Expected to OK Medical School Deal

CHICAGO (AP) — University of Illinois trustees are expected to sign off on a deal to finalize the structure of and financial arrangements for a new medical school in Urbana.

Trustees meeting Thursday in Chicago will vote on the agreement to name the new medical school Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Carle is a local hospital partnering with the university.

Under the deal, the hospital’s promised $100 million contribution to the engineering-based medical school would remain the same even if the hospital changed ownership.

During their regular quarterly meeting, trustees are also expected to appoint new deans for the College of Business, College of Law and Graduate College at the Urbana-Champaign campus.
