Steward, Marilyn J.

Marilyn Joan Steward, age 81, of Altona, Illinois, died 9:24 P.M. on July 20, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born February 2, 1934 near Williamsfield, Illinois to Kermit and Hazel Broadfield Cation.  She is survived by her one child, Ron Steward, of Springfield, Illinois, two brothers Jim (Cindy) Cation of rural Galesburg and Ron (Sharon) Cation of Ohio, five nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Everett, her parents and one sister, Janet Clark.

Joan graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1952 where she was Homecoming Queen her senior year.  She worked the switchboard at the Williamsfield Telephone Company and later for Burlington Truck Lines in Galesburg, Illinois.  After marriage, she was a housewife and full time mother living in and around Altona.  Joan enjoyed bowling with good friends for many years and later in life became an avid NASCAR fan.  She was a life member of the NRA.  Marilyn spent many of her last years receiving dialysis treatments where she found good and supportive friends.  Her humble, considerate nature endeared her to many.  Both she and her husband, had decided they did not want a funeral or services and her wishes will be complied with.  Consistent with her undemanding nature, anyone so inclined may make a memorial donation to an organization of the giver’s choosing.

Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois, is assisting the family.  On-line condolences and sympathy cards may be sent through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhomes.com
