Suburban Community College Dismantles Commemorative Wall

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (AP) — A wall that commemorated past presidents at a suburban Chicago community college under investigation for spending and other issues has been dismantled.

The Chicago Tribune reported Friday that the 101-foot long wall at the College of DuPage cost more than $220,000. The newspaper reports it was the idea of President Robert Breuder who’s on leave after scrutiny about his spending and a hefty severance package. He was awarded $763,000 to leave in March 2016, three years before his contract was set to expire.

The wall was installed last year and included a quotation by Breuder.

Since the questions arose, new board members have been elected at Illinois’ largest community college and officials have pledged to make changes.

The college is under investigation by law enforcement and state education officials.
