Brookfield Zoo Asks Public to Vote on Names for Wolf Pups

CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Zoological Society says the new additions to Brookfield Zoo’s animal population are healthy. Now they just need names. The society is asking the public to vote for names for three Mexican gray wolf puppies born in May.

The pups recently received positive reports from their first wellness exams.

The zoological society, which operates Brookfield Zoo, has named a fourth wolf Nestor. His name is in memory of Ernesta, a female wolf who lived at Brookfield from 2010 to 2012 before she was released into the wild in New Mexico. She delivered a litter of wild pups in 2014, but was later found dead.

Nestor has two brothers and a sister. Voters may choose from six male names and three female names.
