Illinois State University Agrees to Land-Swap with Normal

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) – Illinois State University has agreed to a land-swap that will allow the town of Normal to build a new fire headquarters on a plot of school-owned land.
The university’s board of trustees on Friday approved the deal, which still needs the approval of the town council.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that in exchange for transferring a plot of university land to the town ISU would get town-owned property that includes a parking lot.

The deal also includes a 12-room apartment building just north of ISU’s Bone Student Center. The town would purchase that apartment building and transfer it to ISU.

The university would pay $150,000 toward that building’s purchase to balance the difference between the appraised value of the deal’s three town-owned properties and the ISU-owned property.
