Peoria Civic Center Loses $520,000, Less than Expected

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) – The Peoria Civic Center lost $520,000 this year. But that was less than expected. The (Peoria) Journal Star reports the Civic Center Authority Board reviewed numbers late last week for the fiscal year that ends Aug. 31. The board had counted on a loss of $768,000, so the actual deficit was easier to take.

Officials avoided a repeat of 2014, when they were hit with an $875,000 loss. In 2015, they switched to an in-house food and beverage service and better attendance helped.

Board chairman Bob Manning says officials are not satisfied despite losing less money than expected.

At-large City Councilman Ryan Spain is the city’s liaison to the board. He says the center needs to be much closer to having a surplus.
