40 Leaders from Across Illinois Chosen to be Edgar Fellows

URBANA, Ill. (AP) – Forty Illinois leaders in and out of government have been selected for a fellowship that promotes bipartisanship and regional cooperation statewide. The 2015 Edgar Fellows include several state lawmakers, as well as heads of business and civic groups.

The fellowship takes its name from former Gov. Jim Edgar. He and the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs helped design an intensive training program for the fellows. It’ll take place from Aug. 2-6 in Urbana-Champaign.

An institute press release says the fellows were chosen from more than 140 nominees. Those selected included Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Erica Jeffries, Grundy County Board Chair David Welter and Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health Nirav Shah.

The fellowship is funded primarily through donations.
