Lieutenant Governor Visits Thrushwood Farms in Support of Downstate Business

Lt. Gov 1An area business received a visitor from Springfield this afternoon. Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti took a tour of Thrushwood Farms Quality Meats Incorporated alongside State Reps. Don Moffitt and Norine Hammond, as well as Galesburg Mayor John Pritchard.

According to Vice President of Operations Doug Hankes, Thrushwood Farms works with more than 40 private label customers around the country, and is continuing to grow its local operation.

The company expanded as recently as 2012, adding an additional unit for processing and distribution. The growth is in part due to the company location, which sits in an enterprise zone that allows certain tax breaks, but also hikes up regulations.Lt. Gov 2

Sanguinetti tells WGIL, that part of her visit was to discuss plans to limit such regulations.

“Mr. Hankes spoke of enterprise zones and the fact that those were so great for their expansion, but also too with that came the regulatory burdens which a lot of times makes small business owners feel like ‘what’s the point? there’s so much to do.'” says Sanguinetti. “So this is some place where Bruce and I can actually help out to release that regulatory burden so that they can grow and we’re going to help them by taking a look at what the regulatory burdens are now and diminish those.”

Sanguinetti’s stop was part of a 14-county tour taking place this week. The Lieutenant Governor visited the Warren County town of Cameron as well, where she surveyed damage from July 16th’s EF-2 tornado.
