New Public Safety Building Named for Fallen Firefighter

FAIRBURY, Ill. (AP) – A small-town in central Illinois has dedicated a new public safety complex to a firefighter who died seven years ago from injuries suffered while fighting a blaze.
The Brian J. Munz Public Safety Complex was dedicated on Thursday in the Livingston County town of Fairbury. Munz’s mother, Karen Munz, tells The (Bloomington) Pantagraph that he would be happy with the honor.

Munz was 24-years-old when he died after fighting a fire in the town of Forrest with the all-volunteer Fairbury Fire Department.

The new building is next door to the older and smaller Fairbury Fire Department Building that it replaces. It has six equipment bays, a training room, radio and records room and a storage area.

It was funded with donations and a voter-approved bond issue.

Fairbury is about 35 miles northeast of Bloomington.
