Police in Round Lake Ask Village Leaders to Buy Body Cameras

ROUND LAKE, Ill. (AP) – Members of the village board in the Chicago suburb of Round Lake are considering a request from the police department to buy 15 body cameras.
The department wants to purchase FirstVu HD cameras from the Kansas-based company Digital Ally. It will cost nearly $14,000. The village board will vote on the request Aug. 3.
Police Chief Michael Gillette told board members at a meeting last week that the cameras would act as “another tool to help officers collect and preserve evidence.” He said there’s a situation every day “where a camera would have been useful.”

The (Waukegan) News Sun reports  Mayor Daniel MacGillis and trustees were supportive of the idea.

If approved, officers in the department’s patrol unit would start using the cameras at the beginning of next year.
