Abbe Lanes Closes its Doors, Owner to Sell Building

Abbee Lanes picAn Abingdon Bowling Alley that has operated for nearly 55 years has picked up the pins and closed its lanes. Abbe Lanes Restaurant and Bowling Center is closed for business. That’s according to multiple sources close to the owner of the business.

Chuck Ross, who is the real estate broker for the building says the tenant has “chosen other business ventures,” and has moved out of the building.

Building owner Steve Franklin confirmed that statement, and says he will now sell the building. Franklin says the business owner Zan Carter has operated out of the South Western Avenue Complex off and on since 2001.

The building which opened to the public in 1960 houses both an alley and a restaurant. According to Ross, the facility has had upgrades done in recent years, such as the installation of new pin scorers and a renovated restaurant.

It is unclear as to why the business decided to close. Carter was unable to be reached for comment.
