Oneida Sweet Corn Festival Coming Up This Weekend

Oneida Sweet Corn FestThe Oneida Sweet Corn Festival starts off at 5 p.m. this Thursday in downtown Oneida and lasts through Saturday night.A wide variety of events are scheduled for the festival, as well as 4,000 ears of sweet corn.

Coordinator Mike Kalb tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that they will be hosting a human foosball tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“It’s something that’s new for us this year and it looked like a lot of fun,” says Kalb. “The way it works is, you put on a belt and it’s attached to a pole and it’s the same rules as table foosball. I think there’s six people on a team and you move back and forth and kick the soccer ball. It’s our first try and it just looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Some of the other events planned include a Miss Sweet Corn Pageant, a parade, a mechanical bull, a 5k race and two tethered hot air balloon rides by Greg and Jackie Saul of the Great Balloon Race. Kalb says they will also be bringing an old balloon and have it blown up so visitors can walk around inside of it.

The festival will be open Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
