Baby Left in Car for 2 Hours in Joliet Improves

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — Police say the medical condition has improved for a 7-month-old boy left in a hot car for about two hours.

Deputy Joliet Police Chief Alan Roechner said Wednesday officials at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn believe the child won’t have any lasting injuries.

The boy’s mother, who did not know he was in the car, found the child unresponsive around noon Tuesday.

Roechner says the boy was revived by paramedics, but went into cardiac arrest. He was revived again, and Roechner says he was in “very critical” condition Tuesday night. Police have said his body temperature rose to 108 degrees.

No charges have been filed. State child welfare officials have opened an investigation.

Roechner says the child’s mother believed the infant’s father had removed him from the car.
