Gurley Ahead of Schedule for Rams

St Louis RamsST. LOUIS (AP) – St. Louis Rams first-round pick Todd Gurley is ahead of schedule, but the team isn’t counting on the running back being ready for the opener.
General manager Les Snead says Thursday that Gurley was impressive in conditioning tests earlier this week with just the rookies on the field for one of the hottest days of the summer.

Gurley is rehabbing from left knee surgery that cost him part of his final year at Georgia. Snead says the running back “still needs time.” Snead adds there is no “black and white answer” for when the 10th pick of the draft might be ready to contribute.

There’s depth at running back entering the first full-squad workout on Friday. Tre Mason, last year’s starter, and versatile Benny Cunningham return.
