Geneva Man Convicted of Murdering Wife Gets 30-year Sentence

GENEVA, Ill. (AP) — A 30-year prison sentence has been handed a Geneva man found guilty of first-degree murder in his wife’s death.

Shadwick King was convicted of killing his wife, Kathleen, and leaving her body alongside railroad tracks. The body was found July 6, 2014 less than a mile from the couple’s home.

Prosecutors claimed the 47-year-old King suffocated his 32-year-old wife in a jealous rage and tried to stage her body to make it look like she died when she was out running.

Kane County Circuit Judge James C. Hallock on Friday sentenced King after hearing victim impact statements from Kathleen King’s family, including her aunts, sister and father.

The Kane County Chronicle reports public defender Kelli Childress argued for a new trial, which Hallock rejected.
