Business License, Gaming Regulations Tabled Due to Aldermen Absences

Galesburg City Council Spring 2015Galesburg City Council members ultimately tabled two items last night, that have garnered significant discussion as of late.

Aldermen Angela Bastian, Peter Schwartzman, and Mayor John Pritchard were all absent last night, which led to council deciding to wait for their return before a vote is made. Council members did add to discussions about both regulating video gaming and implementing business licenses in the city.

7th Ward Alderman Jeremy Karlin says in regard to business licenses, he supports the measure as a way of “knowing who the businesses in the community are.”

“We have some sense, bu we don’t have a complete sense of the businesses that do business in Galesburg,” says Karlin. “When our City Hall receives complaints about particular businesses, it would be useful to have the name of the business, and the contact information so that we can reach out. Second of all, it provides an enforcement mechanism which we don’t have right now.”

Meanwhile, a 5-0 vote was made in favor of accepting a bid for work on East Main Street. The $1.4 Million TIF funded project will include various upgrades, such as a new stone sign, and enhanced landscape work off of I-74.
