Weaver, Millard B.Millard B. “Bert” Weaver, 87, formerly of Galesburg, died at 10:55 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, Illinois.

Bert was born on November 8, 1927 in Paxton, Illinois, the son of Millard Burt Weaver and Julia Marie Brackney. He married the love of his life; Alma May Platte on July 4, 1948 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death in February of 2003. He is survived his children, Brenda Ascher, Jim (Sherry)Weaver, Ed (Tammie) Weaver all of Galesburg, Dave (Tracey) Weaver of Abingdon, Julia Strohmaier of Lacon, and Stan (Kim)Weaver of Lakewood, Co; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, a brother, sisters, a daughter, grandson, and two sons-in-law.

Bert enlisted in the Army in January of 1946, he served a two year tour of duty until August of 1948; and then later reenlisted in October of 1950 and served until October 1951. Bert was a very proud veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He was also a member of the Galesburg VFW, and was an honored participant of the Honor Flight. He inspired his son Dave to join the Navy, Stan to join the Marine Corp; and also two grandchildren followed in his foot steps and are Marine and Navy veterans.

Bert was a maintenance supervisor for the Carl Sandburg Mall from the time it opened in 1975 to his retirement, October 26, 1992. Bert owned two upholstery shops in Elmwood and loved doing wood work.

Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded.  A celebration of life will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. A private family burial will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
