HENDERSONdeathAccording to Galesburg Police Officials, a woman has been pronounced dead following an incident that took place this morning.

Authorities responded to an apartment building at 1045 North Henderson Street at 11:02 a.m. today to reports of a citizen found down behind the building.

Police have confirmed that the deceased is 26-year-old Kimberly R. McKay-Watters of both Galesburg and Monmouth. According to reports, Mckay-Watters was a resident of the building.

Galesburg Police Chief David Christensen says he believes she had been lying on the ground between the building and a parked car for sometime, before witnesses spotted and reported the incident.

Police have indicated the cause of death was due to a self inflicted gun shot, however, they have confirmed that reports of shots fired were never received.

Witness Ronald Schofield told WGIL that he reported the incident to police, and that he sympathizes with those involved.

“It’s a sad state of affairs,” says Schofield. “You know I feel bad for the family, and hope they make it through it grieving through the process. It’s bad.”

Husband Stephen Watters also spoke with WGIL and said his wife was an avid gardener, and worked part time at an area restaurant.

State Crime Scene Investigators accompanied GPD, the Galesburg Fire Department, GHAS, and Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas at the scene.

McKay-Watters was pronounced dead upon their arrival. Further investigation continues at this time.
