City Council recently approved a resolution naming the hiking and biking bridge over the spillway area to be named the Lyman Jensen Memorial Bridge.

Jensen served in many roles during his career. He was the director of public works and stepped in as acting city manager for extended periods of time on three separate occasions.

Jensen also served a term as chairman of the Illinois Municipal League Public Works Committee and was instrumental in organizing various public improvements. He received the Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award in 1999, retired in 2000, and passed away in 2009, remaining an active community servant up until his death.

In a press release, Director of Parks and Recreation Larry Cox says, “Lyman was a wonderful boss, who cared about his employees, was fair and served with great integrity.”

A ceremony will be held to dedicate the bridge at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. The public is invited to attend.
