New 205 Athletic Director to Center on Communication This School Year

Flater, JeffDistrict 205 will begin a new school year Thursday and various new administrators will be heading operations.

One new admin in charge is Athletic Director Jeff Flater, who returns to his home district with 21 plus years in athletic administration experience under his belt.

Flater was hired this past June to replace outgoing AD Ralph Henning. The GHS grad has been on the job for about a month now and says he is already implementing lines of communication with faculty, students, and staff–something he says will be extremely important for this upcoming year.

Flater tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL,that specifically for students, expectations have already been outlined.

“What we like to do is communicate a consistent message to the kids–you know expectations,” says Flater. “Everyone has expectations. We have expectations with coaches, students, and even expectations with parents. We really like to communicate what those expectations are, you know, appropriate ways to communicate with the three different factions, and I’m the guy that kind of sits in the middle to make sure those lines of communication are flowing.”

Flater adds that interim AD Steve Cheeseman has made the transition smooth. He says its honor to be back home.
