GPSF Kicks Off 20th Duck Race Fundraising in Support of Students

RubberDucksIn Galesburg, the quack is back. The Galesburg Public Schools Foundation officially kicked off support for their 20th Annual Rubber Duck Race this past Saturday.

A number of fundraising events are in the works this month and next, before the race takes place midway through September .

GPSF Administrator Patti Bibo says events such as, celebrity grocery bagging, telethons, and the “radio duck-a-thon” on WGIL will all be held to raise funds.
Bibo tells WGIL, that funds are used for educational purposes.

“We have been able to fund several fantastic trips, like to the Ron Clark Academy recently where the teachers went,” says Bibo. “We’ve done trips to the Holocaust museum. This is in addition to things like Smart boards and reading materials.”

Due to the teachers strike in District 205 last year, sales were down, but Bibo says she expects to be getting back to normal this year.

“I know for a fact that we will be back to the great support of the teachers, parents, and the community as a whole.” “I think we will do well this year.”

On race day, ducks will be raced down the water slide at Lake Storey directly following the Great Cardboard Boat Regatta which is also coming up next month. The race takes place Sunday, September 13th at 2 p.m.
