Illinois Ready to Focus on Football but Faces Questions

illiniCHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP)–Illinois and football coach Tim Beckman have endured an eventful offseason that included allegations by a few former players of mistreatment and the just-announced resignation of the top administrator on campus, Chancellor Phyllis Wise.

On Sunday Beckman told reporters he’s glad to be focused on football and the Sept. 4 opener against Kent State.

The Illini have questions to answer in the four weeks of practice between now and then.

One is how to keep quarterback Wes Lunt healthy. He missed much of last season with an injury.

Another is who’ll fill in for injured wide receivers Mike Dudek and Justin Hardee.

And finally, how is the team affected by the turmoil?

Running back Josh Ferguson said players are so busy they find off-field issues easy to ignore.
