Re-Enactors to Embark on Galesburg for Heritage Days this Weekend

The 21st Annual Heritage Days Celebration takes place Friday through Sunday at Lake Storey.

According to Heritage Days Living History Association President Mark Ebner, thousands of visitors and hundreds of historical re-enactors are expected to come to town for the event.

Ebner tells Galesburg Live on WGIL, that some travel quite a distance.

“We get re-enactors from 17 or 18 states, it’s pretty amazing,” says Ebner. “They all come together for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to create two absolutely magical cities–one a Civil War venue, and the other one near the brick pavilion a pre-1840’s rendezvous. It’s just amazing what is pulled off in just a handful of days.”

Vice President Dave Bernhart adds that events are meant to be educational, specifically on Friday, when students will come to view demonstrations such as blacksmithing, and basket weaving.

Various events are planned all weekend, including a civil war battle and medical demonstration Saturday. Heritage Days opens at 4 p.m. Friday, and closes at 4 on Sunday.
