205 Board Members Weigh-in on Proposed Budget Deficit

d205 board 2015Discussion of the $2.6 Million operational budget deficit for district 205 had board of education members voicing their opinion on the issue last night.

Possible action to decrease the current budget is to form a committee that can reduce it down to zero.

Board Vice President, Joshua Gibb says board members should be thoughtful during the process of building a strong committee to make for accurate decision making.

“The committee needs to be formed, and people need to be selected based on their expertise and the perspective that they bring to the table,” says Gibb.

Gibb adds that the plan must work in a way to improve the district in order to welcome future families and students into the Galesburg community.

“We could maybe re-develop our product–which is the education we are providing to our kids, in a way that’s effective and efficient and maybe even unique to where people would want to come to Galesburg, is what I would like us to do.”

Once members are selected to join the committee, the group will be in a time crunch to figure out the balance before the final budget is brought to the board next month.
