Chicago Getting 125 New Buses as Part of Overhaul

CHICAGO (AP)–The Chicago Transit Authority says it’s buying 125 new buses.

The CTA announced Monday the purchase means the agency’s bus fleet will be new or like new. That includes 400 other new buses purchased since 2011 and a near-complete overhaul of more than 1,000 buses.

The order is pending approval of the CTA board during its Wednesday meeting. It’s part of a contract CTA awarded to Nova Bus in 2013. The new buses will be used to replace the oldest vehicles in the CTA fleet, which were bought from 2000-2002.

The new buses will be 40-feet long and have improved fuel economy, security cameras and LED lighting. The agency expects the 124 new buses will arrive as early as May.
