Galesburg Man Arrested for Driving into House Under the Influence of Drugs

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg police responded Tuesday to a car crashing into a home on the 200 block of North Whitesboro Street.36-year-old, Jason B. Hartshorn, of Galesburg was arrested after driving under the influence of drugs and failing to reduce speed, then fleeing the scene.

Hartshorn told police he fell asleep at the wheel after taking four types of sleeping aids, such as Melatonin and Hydrozine. The driver fell asleep at the wheel. At the sound and impact of the crash, he awoke and drove away from the damage.

The home owner heard a loud boom of the vehicle colliding with the home, and ran downstairs to see the front of the house pushed deep into the living room.

When the driver returned to see the damage to the home, he was transferred to the hospital. There are no reported injuries and the damage of the home is undetermined.

Hartshorn remains in the Knox County Jail facing charges of DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid accident on citation.
