Illinois House to Consider Distributing Federal Funds

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP)–The Illinois House returns Tuesday for what has become a weekly visit to the state Capitol during a summer-long budget standoff.

Democrats who control the chamber plan a committee vote on a plan adopted last week by the Senate to disburse $5 billion in federal funds despite having no budget.

An afternoon joint hearing is planned for two House appropriations committees _ those governing general services and human services.
Lawmakers took testimony Monday in Chicago on the initiative to funnel $4.8 billion for programs such as nutrition for women and their children and energy-bill assistance for low-income residents.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner supports the plan.
Rauner and Democrats have been unable to agree on spending for the year that began July 1.
