New High School, Budget Surplus Among Positives for New Knoxville School Year

Knoxville School District LogoThe school year is nearing for District 202 in Knoxville, and various positives seem to be the current theme.

The district will officially dedicate its new high school this Saturday, to celebrate the finished product.

The more than $30 Million project holds a 750 seat auditorium, wireless internet, as well as many other updated amenities for students and staff.

Superintendent Steve Wilder tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that the event has been a long time coming.

“It was something that we planned last December, and we just didn’t make it,” says Wilder. “We had an early Winter set in on the site contractor. They finished everything this Spring and in Summer they did some final touches inside the building. We are very excited to welcome the community.”

The district is also looking at a budget surplus of $166,000 this fiscal year, after finishing last year in the red. The district will pay back into some of its reserves to help make up for what was taken out last year. Wilder says the projected budget for FY16 is always subject to change. He says the district will continue to spend conservatively throughout the year. A final budget will be on the agenda for board approval next month.
