Monmouth-Roseville to Expect Budget Surplus and New Bleachers

Monmouth-Roseville School DistrictAt yesterday’s Monmouth-Roseville School Board Meeting, the board members discussed a tentative budget for the 2015-2016 Fiscal Year.According to District Superintendent Ed Fletcher, the district is expecting a surplus of roughly $150,000 at this point.

Fletcher tells WGIL that they are happy to anticipate a positive balance, but at any point in the year that could change.

“We ended up with a balanced budget this year in each of our operating funds and so we feel good about that,” says Fletcher. “Although, it’s always a tenuous situation with the budget with the proration of general state aid and such, but the district is trying very hard to live within our means.”

Fletcher says usually superintendents are conservative with revenue, but believes the district will end the school year with that surplus.

Also at the meeting, the board approved a bid by Carroll Seating for just under $78,000 to replace the gym bleachers at Monmouth-Roseville Junior High.

Fletcher says the bleachers were getting really old and some sections were no longer usable, so it was time to replace them. According to Fletcher, the district also did a life safety study that suggested the bleachers needed to be brought up to code. Fletcher says it is nice that the new bleachers will be able to go in and out electronically too.
