Bond Reduced in Amtrak Bust Case

knox county courthouseA Normal man accused of trafficking multiple drugs has received a reduced bond, following his appearance in Knox County Circuit Court earlier this week
32-year-old Stephen A. Aranda was arrested last month on a bus, after travelling on an Amtrak train that arrived at the Galesburg Depot.

Aranda, who was travelling from Denver, Colorado, was arrested after K-9 units detected drugs in a bag the man was carrying.

100 grams of mushrooms, as well as ecstasy were recovered upon arrest.

Aranda appeared Monday for a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Thomas Ewing. According to court documents, Ewing ruled to reduce bond from $250,000 to $50,000 for the Normal man.

Aranda faces two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The most serious charge of intent is a Class X felony worth up to 30 years in prison.

An arraignment hearing has been set for August 27th at 9 a.m.
