ROWVA Superintendent Anticipates Upwards of $400,000 Budget Deficit for FY16

ROWVAROWVA begins school Monday and the district is preparing a budget approval for the upcoming fiscal year.

Superintendent Joe Sornberger says he and the teachers of the district need to have a conservative spending mind set.

“We’ve had a lot of people and teachers at ROWVA, that kind of took a little to what I said, which is if we need it, and we need it to educate kids, then we will find it and we’ll spend it, but if we don’t–right now we need it to hold on to,”says Sornberger.

ROWVA is faced with a large deficit budget for the academic year, but he says as long as they don’t lose revenue the district will be fine.

“I’m looking at a budget that looks between $350,000 and $400,000 in the hole. That’s if we spend every single dollar. If we aren’t spending every single dollar like we did the previous year. I’m hoping that it ends less than where we were before.”

A couple teaching and administrative positions were cut in the last year, but Sornberger says the district is doing the best they can to keep up with the current deficit at hand and a find balance.
