School Back in Session, Summer School A Success

205logobwToday is the first full day of classes for Grades K-12 in District 205, and the 2015 summer school session set the bar high for a successful academic year.

At the Board of Education meeting earlier this week, Nielson Elementary School Principal, Matthew LeClere spoke about improvements that came from this year’s summer school session.

A group of 29 students enrolled opposed to the 42 from last summer, however the students had a productive summer and all but one student received credit.

The session was held at the high school and focused on credit recovery courses for on track graduation, as well as drivers education classes.

The numbers jumped in many categories compared to the 2014 session, including attendance and LeClere says he is pleased to see the major spike in students from outside districts taking these courses.

“Talking about home schooled and other school districts–it’s a big increase over the last few years,” says LeClere. “Usually these are mostly Galesburg students, so we saw an increase this year in the number of out of district students taking or classes.”

LeClere tallied a total of six students outside of District 205 and five home schooled students who enrolled in the 2015 program.
