Health Department Operating with Two Month Absence of State Budget

knox county sealThe Knox County Board of Health met last night to discuss their concerns with the Illinois state Budget.

Some of the grant funding received by the board is from the state of Illinois, however Department Administrator Michele Fishburn says this is the second month without federal funds.

She explains contracts are not finalized and budgets will not be approved, making a delay in the board’s upcoming fiscal year planning.

Fishburn says even though the health department has not received an exact amount of money to work with, they are able to continue.

“Things are pretty much status quot,” says Fishburn. “We did have some things occur that were good news for the health department this month. The department of public aid will continue to pay bills in the absence of a budget–that’s good news on the health side as well as the health center side. It’s my understanding that really we should be starting to see  July money even right now.”

Fishburn adds they will be budgeting FY16 with an unknown amount until the state budget is possibly determined after labor day or in the late fall.
