Cameron Woman Helps Raise Money for Tornado Victims

Cameron FundraiserA Cameron native expected nearly 500 people to attend the Cameron Tornado Relief Fundraiser yesterday. The goal of the 11a.m. to 5p.m. event was to raise money for victims of the EF-2 tornado, that damaged more than 100 homes and buildings last month.

G&M Distributors and Pizza House donated drinks and food to serve for the duration of the event, while guests listened to a live band. Prizes were raffled off while a collaboration with the Central Warren Fire Department offered Touch the Truck entertainment for kids.

Event coordinator Cheri Gipsen of Cameron tells WGIL the predicted amount of $10,000 raised would benefit the people she has known her whole life.

“I’ve actually lived on the same block that I grew up on,” says Gipsen. “So, it would mean seeing people who helped raise me be able to get back into their homes and return to, somewhat, the life that they’re used to and Cameron can move on.”

Gipsen says she is thankful for those who donated items the first few weeks after the tornado struck, but wants to remind people not to forget about the work that still needs to be done.

Cameron Christian Church Tornado Fund will still be set up to accept donations and spread amongst residents in need.
