Dedication Ceremony Held for Knoxville High School

Knoxville High SchoolYesterday a dedication ceremony was held at Knoxville High School to celebrate it’s completion after years of work.District 202 Superintendent Steve Wilder says the school ended up costing $31.6 million to build.

Wilder talked about the process of building the school and how many generations were sad to see the old school demolished, but understood it was time for a change.

Wilder tells WGIL that he is excited that after all this time, the school will no longer just be a construction project but an academic learning environment.

“You know, it’s unbelievable, it’s been a long process, and there were ups and downs throughout the process, but we were entrusted to get the project done, to build this building for students to use for generations to come,” says Wilder. “I’m just very excited that it ceases to become a construction project and it becomes a school where learning will take place. It’s been a long time coming and we’re very excited.”

Wilder mentioned during the ceremony that as he worked with engineers, they stressed focusing on what education would look like 30 years from now.

The new school includes several up-to-date features such as state of the art science labs, a recording studio, geothermal heating and cooling and multiple commons areas for students.
