Business Licenses, Video Gaming Among Decisions for City Council Tonight

galesburgGalesburg City Council members will take up discussion again tonight, centering around a number of topics that were tabled two weeks ago, due to aldermen absences.

All area businesses could be required to register for a new license if aldermen are in support of a measure to do so this evening.

City Manager Todd Thompson has said in past meetings, that anyone “conducting business and bringing in revenue” would be required to license themselves as such.

If passed, all existing businesses would be subject to a background check and would be on file with city administration.

City Clerk Kelli Bennewitz has also said, that many times the city does not know about new business coming to town because not all are required to be on record with administration.

Meanwhile, council will discuss and potentially decide to approve stricter regulations against video gaming. Liquor licenses for such establishments would be limited to five.

Aldermen will also debate potentially changing the current salary structure for the soon to be vacant city attorney position, which opens up later this year. Council meets tonight at 6:30 in City Hall.
