Fox Sees Progress as Bears Close Training Camp

Chicago BearsBOURBONNAIS, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears closed training camp with a handful of skirmishes and players trying to compensate for the loss of key receivers Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White.

Jeffery has a calf strain suffered Wednesday and missed the first preseason game. He remains day to day and is unlikely to participate when the team goes to Indianapolis for practices against the Colts prior to Saturday’s game.

Coach John Fox announced White will have surgery within a week for a stress fracture in his left shin. The team had announced Saturday that White could miss the remainder of the season, or a large portion of it.

The Bears also announced third-string quarterback David Fales has been taken off the physically unable to perform list after an undisclosed illness kept him sidelined through all but one day of camp.

At Sunday’s final practice, one of three shoving matches included defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff scuffling with center Will Montgomery.
