HERRIN, Il. (AP) — A memorial service is planned for a 4-year-old boy who drowned at a pond in a Herrin park in southern Illinois.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that Amir Fenner died Saturday after a family trip to Herrin City Park. He was initially reported missing.
A candlelight service for Amir is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Ray Fosse Park in Marion. Family members say Amir had just started kindergarten in the Marion public school system.
Herrin Mayor Steve Frattini says he plans to consult the city’s park district to determine whether additional safety upgrades are needed at the recreational area.
