Former Illinois Caseworker Charged With Theft, Misconduct

CHICAGO (AP) — A former Illinois Department of Human Services caseworker is accused of misappropriating more than $300,000 meant for needy families.

Sixty-three-year-old Debra Moore of Baytown, Texas, and formerly of Chicago, is charged with theft and official misconduct. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office says Moore pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday in Cook County court.

Moore used to work as a caseworker at the Woodlawn Family Community Resource Center in Chicago. She’s accused of selling LINK cards and adding unauthorized benefits to accounts of family and friends in exchange for cash payments.

Moore has been out on bond and under electronic monitoring. She’s scheduled to return to court next month.
