Kenan, Richard Lee “Dick”

Richard Lee “Dick” Kenan, 77, of Galesburg, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Dick was born October 27, 1937 in Galesburg, the son of Herbert F. and Mary L. (Barnfield) Kenan.  He married Carol Ann Hagan on January 12, 1955 in Burlington, IA.  Dick is survived by his wife, Carol of Galesburg; one son, Rick (Diana) Kenan of Galesburg; two daughters, Deborah (Kerry) Swanson of Wake Forest, NC and Patricia Kenan of Galesburg; and his best friend and brother in law, Ron Hagan of Galesburg.  He is also survived by one son in law, Brent McNall of Aldeo; five grandchildren, Emilie Michael, Jessica Wotring, Andrew Swanson, Kole Kenan and Madeline Kenan; and one great grandson, Izik Kenan-Esquival.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca McNall and his parents.

Dick was a union carpenter for 43 years, working for Fox Construction and Galesburg Construction, retiring in 2000.  He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  Dick was an avid drag racer for over 30 years, having been a driver and later being “the best” crew chief for his son Rick.  He enjoyed sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, Notre Dame, and the Green Bay Packers.  Dick and Carol spent many years travelling throughout the US their RV.

Cremation rites will be accorded.  No services are planned.  Memorials may be made in Dick’s memory to KCCDD or to the Knox County Humane Society.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
