YMCA to Host 2nd Annual Big Steps 5K Next Month

YMCAThe second annual Big Steps 5K/10K run and walk is a month away and expectations are set high for the event.
CEO of the Knox County YMCA, Adam Sampson tells WGIL this year they expect to reach between 150 to 200 people in attendance. Sampson says although the race was a success last year, he is looking to make slight changes.

“The initial year, we had over 100 people that participated in one of our races,” says Sampson. “We think that we ran a pretty good race– we tried to concentrate on all the details that are necessary to put on a good race and we think that we’ll be able to even improve on those this year.”

Sampson says an improvement added to the race is the offer of a 10K. He wants to be able to serve those with various styles of wellness within the community.

“We have a one-mile fun run that starts at 8:30 a.m., the 5K and 10K will kick-off at 9 a.m.–you can run it, walk it, or you can do whatever way you can get it done to come out and support us.”

The Big Steps race will be held on September 12th.
