Apartment Resident Impacted By Burg’s Flames, “What’s Salvageable and What’s Not”

8-21-15 fireGalesburg Fire Department responded to flames rising from Burg’s Bar-n-Grill early this morning.

Fire Chief Tom Simkins updated WGIL this afternoon stating the fire started on the second level of the establishment, but the cause is still under investigation.
Residents in the apartment that shared a wall with Burg’s, were evacuated in fear of the flames spreading.
Resident Keeley Denisar tells WGIL she was sleeping at the time of the fire.

Denisar says she didn’t have a smoke detector installed in her apartment and was unaware of the smoke and flames, until a neighbor called to leave the building.
She says she doesn’t know to what extent of damage her personal items face.

“I’ll have to go through everything. The firemen did a great job at trying to salvage a lot of my stuff. So there’s a lot of stuff that looks like it’s in decent shape, but I’ll really have to go through it and see what’s salvageable and what’ s not”.

Denisar says fire officials told her the apartment building isn’t a total loss. She was able to take a walk through it to see water damage to the walls and ceiling.

As of now Denisar has received her two pet snakes and laptop computer and says she is unsure whether her apartment is livable.
