The Galesburg Fire Department is finishing clean-up on the scene of a fire that took place earlier this morning at Burg’s Bar-n- Grill (formerly McGillacuddy’s) on Cherry Street. Fire officials say they received the call at 1:51 a.m. this morning and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen area on the second floor of the establishment.
Fire fighters entered the structure to fight the blaze but were forced out with the threat of the roof collapsing. Residents in an apartment next door to the establishment were evacuated.
At this time, no injuries have been reported.
Fire Chief Tom Simkins says flames reached as high as 23 feet in the air at points. Simkins says the building is likely a total loss.
No report as to how the fire started has been given at this time. Cherry Street between Main and Simmons currently remains closed.
