Beautification of Interstate 74 Ramps on East Main Street Underway

Galesburg-city-signConstruction projects are popping up all over town and the newest addition is the I-74 ramps on East Main street.

City Engineer Wayne Carl says the project cost roughly $1.5 million.

Carl tells Galesburg’s Evening News on WGIL some of the upgrades included such as street lighting, landscaping, and a new decorative fence.

“It will include decorative street lighting, that matches the street lighting we used on the Bickerdyke Bridge and the other overpass,” says Carl. “It will include lots of improved landscaping in the median and along the edges. It will include removing the chain linked fence that has been overgrown over the years, and we’ll be putting a new decorative fence with pillars that match the Bickerdyke Bridge and West Main Street Bridge in.”

Carl says they will also install new signs, one to welcome visitors to Galesburg and another electronic sign that will feature city events.

In addition to the work on the side of the road, Carl says they will also be doing some work on the street too, with resurfaces and removal of some medians.

Carl says they anticipate finishing early December.
