Illinois House Returns, Takes Up Child Care Legislation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois House arrives in Springfield following a round of political rallies last week which attempted to buoy spirits in a continuing dispute over approval of a state budget.

The House on Tuesday will conduct a hearing on a plan to restore cuts to child assistance for working parents. And it will convene as an entire body to continue discussions of the budget stalemate.

Republicans and Democrats each had a day at the Illinois State Fair last week to take center stage and blame the other side for the dispute. The state is ending its eighth week without a yearlong spending plan that was supposed to take effect in July.

Both GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrats who control the General Assembly offered budgets last spring that had deficits.
