Knox, Warren and Henderson Counties Awarded $2.2 Million for Head Start Programs

head startCongresswoman Cheri Bustos announced that a $2.2 Million grant was awarded to Knox, Warren, and Henderson Counties for Head Start Programs.

Bustos says the grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources and will go to West Central Community Services Inc. to be spread between the counties.

Bustos tells WGIL that Head Start is a program for young students who are preparing for Kindergarten that has been around for roughly 50 years.

“Head Start is a program for Pre-Kindergarten students, who perhaps need a little extra help getting off to a good start,” says Bustos. “It’s a perfect name for the program. It’s been around for 50 years now, and it has helped millions of children prepare for Kindergarten.”

Bustos says the grant money will help seven locations in 12 classrooms throughout the region.

Bustos says not only will this help students prepare for their education, but it will help parents be involved in their child’s education as well.
