Man Arrested for Stealing and Selling to Area Antique Shops

galesburgpolicelogoA man suspected of stealing items from antique shops in Galesburg and passing them off as his own, then selling them to different antique shops, has been arrested.

Galesburg police responded to a theft complaint at The Junk Drawer on Cherry Street at 3 p.m. Sunday.

A complainant suspected 40-year-old Jeremy Pople of selling items originally from the Antique Mall.

Pople reportedly entered the Junk Drawer three different times in the early afternoon selling miscellaneous pieces of jewelry and porcelain items worth $150.

Reports indicate that Antique Mall price tags listed under a corresponding name were discovered in a nearby parking lot.

Pople reportedly stated that the items were from his grandmother’s estate.

He has been charged with two counts of theft and currently remains in Knox County Jail.
