Questions Arise Over Storage Fees for Crundwell’s items

DIXON, Ill. (AP) — The longtime companion of imprisoned former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell wants the federal government to pay him thousands of dollars for storing some of her property that the U.S. Marshal’s Service seized.

The (Dixon) Telegraph reports Jim McKillips of Wisconsin, filed a petition saying Crundwell’s trophy and awards collections were in his possession and he paid $110 a month since October 2012 for storage.

The government has countered to dismiss McKillips petition, saying didn’t prove he was required to store and move the items. A federal judge has ordered both parties to resolve the claims.

McKillips declined Monday to discuss the petition or if he’s still in a relationship with Crundwell.

Crundwell is serving a prison sentence for embezzling almost $54 million from the northern Illinois city.
