Bustos Announces Support for Iran Nuclear Deal

Bustos picAn area Congresswoman has announced her backing of a fairly controversial issue in national politics.

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos says that “after weeks of thought and consultation,” she will support President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

In a press release, Bustos said she attended classified briefings with Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, and other White House administration before making a decision, in addition to hearing from citizens in Illinois.

The Obama Administration is currently lobbying for the deal, which they have stated will reduce Iran’s nuclear capabilities and would lift sanctions. The East Moline Democrat says “should Iran ever violate the agreement, sanctions should be re-imposed and a military response should not be taken off the table.”

Bustos says that through the agreement, “the country will be opened up to strict transparency, and monitoring,” and that “pathways to a nuclear weapon will be blocked and enforced by the U.S. and the international community.”

Bustos adds that, “the deal is not perfect , but it’s the right step for national and global security.”
