At last night’s Knox County Board meeting, the board approved various renovation projects between the courthouse and the landfill office.

At the landfill, the board approved replacing the administrative office flooring, which could have potentially created a safety concern.

In addition to new flooring, the landfill will also be getting a newer model compactor, contingent on financing.

Highway and Landfill Committee Chairman Shawn Pittman explained to the board that the new compactor will bring in more money for the county.

“The thing everyone needs to understand when it comes to the landfill, is that this is the one piece of equipment that makes us money,” says Pittman. “In the landfill–in that business–space equates to tons and tons equates to dollars. This thing set up the way that is with the GPS makes us money, because it will optimize compaction in the landfill, which allows us to put more tons in there.”

At the courthouse, the board approved maintaining the fire escape and installing a hand rail in the Jury Box Ramp.

The board also voted down purchasing out of state service credit towards Landfill Administrator Jerry Reynold’s retirement for budget reasons.
